One of the main duties of the SIA is the compulsory licensing of individuals working in specific sectors of the private security industry within UK.
Whether or not an individual requires a license is determined by the role that is performed and the activity that is undertaken. These are described fully in Section 3 and Schedule 2 of the Private Security Industry Act 2001 (as amended).
The activities defined as licensable by the Act are:
Ø Cash and Valuables in Transit
Ø Close Protection
Ø Door Supervision
Ø Public Space Surveillance (CCTV)
Ø Security Guard
The Private Security Industry Act 2001 (as amended) allows for SIA licensing of private investigation activities, security consultants and precognition agents. However, these activities are not being licensed at the present.
Novus Altair Limited provides the training you need to obtain these licenses but once you have passed our training courses, you can apply to the SIA (Security Industry Authority) for a license. The SIA charge £220 to apply for your first license. Subsequent licenses (except the Vehicle Immobilization license) can be applied for 50% discounted price.
Please note that all licenses must be renewed every three years (except the Vehicle Immobilization license which is annual), and the full application fees apply to renewals.
